Radio Program on Human Trafficking

In a recent episode of the “Political Trends with Busayo Ogidioluโ€ program on Radio Nigeria Progress 100.5 FM our Executive Director, Dowole Gold Moyinoluwa addressed the critical issue of human trafficking and its consequential effects on Nigeria’s socio-political economy.

During the discussion, our Executive Director provided a overview of the human trafficking crisis, delving into the major factors responsible for its prevalence in the country. These include poverty, limited access to education, inadequate law enforcement, that enable the exploitation of vulnerable individuals.

She discussed the existing legal framework for addressing human trafficking in Nigeria. She highlighted the key offenses and penalties outlined in the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act,

The impact of human trafficking on Nigeria’s socio-political landscape was examined. She highlighted the drain on human capital, the disruption of families and communities, and the reputational damage to the country. The social consequences were also outlined, including the exploitation and trauma experienced by victims, the breakdown of social structures, and the public health concerns arising from this scourge.

In the closing remarks she, urged everyone to be their “brother’s keeper” and watch out for one another in the fight against human trafficking, disseminate knowledge about human trafficking to their communities and loved ones and reporting any suspected cases of human trafficking to the relevant authorities, such as the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and civil society organizations (CSOs).
