Symposium on Female Genital Mutilation

Our team representative, Pamilerin Oluwasanmi participated in a one-day symposium focused on strategies to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) across schools, tertiary institutions, ministries, departments, and agencies.

This event marked the commemoration of Zero Tolerance Day for FGM and was organized by The New Generation Girls & Women Development Initiative (NIGAWD) collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Ekiti State Governor and the Ekiti State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, with support from the unfpanigeria .

The symposium convened key stakeholders, including gender desk officers, school counselors, medical professionals, lawyers, and presidents of Student Union Governments (SUG), to brainstorm effective ways to create a movement aimed at eradicating FGM.

Dr. Olayemi Oyibanji, the Wife of the State Governor, expressed her commitment to ending FGM in the state in a spirited manner.

We commend the efforts of the NIGAWDfor their impactful initiatives, such as assisting 100 communities in abandoning FGM and establishing surveillance teams in areas where FGM has been discontinued.

As an organization, we believe in collaboration and will continue to work alongside other state and non-state actors to eliminate female genital mutilation.
