School Sensitization on Female Genital Mutilation
In line with the activities for the 2025 International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, as a member of @aonnekiti we conducted a sensitization program. We engaged 178 pupils (91 boys and 87 girls) and 16 female teachers in discussions about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
We defined FGM in simple terms and explained its harmful consequences. We also encouraged the children to share the knowledge they gained with their parents and others in their community as a way to help end this practice.**
Following the sensitization, we distributed pens and pencils to the pupils, which filled them with excitement and enthusiasm. This small gesture not only served as a token of appreciation but also reinforced the importance of education in preventing harmful practices.
As an organization, we firmly believe that prevention is key. Therefore, we are committed to investing in prevention programs that educate and empower communities to eliminate FGM and protect the rights of girls and women.
