On Tuesday, July 9th, 2024, we took part in the launch of the People’s Assembly initiative in the Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area (LGA) of Ekiti State, Nigeria. This initiative was organized by Yiaga Africa, with support from the Open Society Foundations
The People’s Assembly is an effort to strengthen deliberative democracy at the local government level. Through this platform, citizens can come together to deliberate on local governance issues, identify problem areas, and co-create solutions that will then be implemented by the local government authorities.
Providing a structured forum for dialogue and collaborative problem-solving, the People’s Assembly aims to empower local residents and enhance the responsiveness of the local government to the needs and concerns of the people.
