On 19th May 2025, as a member of the Child Protection Network Cpn Ekiti, our executive director, serving as the secretary of the network, along with other executives, paid an advocacy visit to the Ekiti State Ministryof Women Affairs and Social Development. This visit was led by Mr. Sanni Olakunle, the National Coordinator of the Child Protection Network Nigeria and National Monitor. The purpose was to advocate for the domestication of the National Guideline on Alternative Care (ACG) in Ekiti State.
We were honored to be received by the Honorable Commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Olatilu Omotayo, along with the Directors of Child and Women. During our meeting, we made several requests to the Ministry, including:
- The domestication of the National Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children in Nigeria in Ekiti State.
- Facilitating Child Protection Network activities at the local government level.
- Reviewing the Ekiti State Child Rights Law.
- Declaring a public holiday for parents on Childrenβs Day to strengthen family bonds.
The visit was productive, with the Ministry pledging its commitment to collaborate with us in support of our requests. The Permanent Secretary, a pioneer of CPN in Ekiti, embraced our objectives.
