Our team recently held an educational session on menstrual health management and self-esteem for 125 adolescent girls from the Usi-Community at the Usi-Ekiti town hall. The event was organized in partnership with the Chamber of the Miss Usi-Ekiti and the Federation of Usi Students’ Union (FUSU) as part of their “Pad Usi-Girls Project”.
During the program, Adetokunbo Ayodeji, our representative, spoke to the girls about the importance of building self-confidence and how self-esteem can positively influence their decision-making.
Nurse Esther Iseoluwa Oyeyemi, our health education officer, then provided in-depth education on menstrual hygiene management. She emphasized the proper ways to care for oneself during menstruation, how to select appropriate menstrual products, and even demonstrated the process of making reusable sanitary pads using locally sourced materials.
The session was highly engaging, with the adolescent girls actively participating and asking various questions, which the our team members answered thoroughly.
We express our gratitude to the Federation of USI Students’ Union (FUSU) for the invitation to this important event.
With the school holidays ongoing, we encourage individuals and organizations visiting local communities to educate adolescents, especially on sexual and reproductive health-related topics, which are crucial for their well-being and empowerment.
