Addressing and preventing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) is of paramount importance when it comes to protecting children. Children are particularly vulnerable to SGBV due to their limited understanding of sexuality, their dependence on adults, and their inability to protect themselves adequately.
By intervening early and providing appropriate support, we can interrupt this cycle of violence and create safer environments for children to grow.
We kicked off our 2024 Anti-SGBV School Campaign Initiative with the students of the Jacflorie Group of Schools in Ado-Ekiti. The primary objective of the campaign was to raise awareness and empower the students to break the silence surrounding all forms of violence perpetrated against them, including sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). Our dedicated team worked closely with 46 students, sensitizing them on effective strategies to combat violence.
During the campaign, we focused on providing the students with tools and knowledge to address various forms of violence, such as: consent, boundaries, and how to recognize and report instances of sexual assault or harassment. Our team addressed the issue of negative peer pressure and provided the students with tools to recognize and resist harmful influences that may lead to violence or risky behaviors.
We believe that their increased awareness and active involvement will contribute to the creation of a safer and more respectful school community, where violence is not tolerated and survivors are supported.
